Label TextLondon artist Bernice Vincent graduated from H. B. Beal Technical School in 1954. She went on to study at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She exhibited her work in solo shows across southern Ontario and beyond. After painting several portraits of objects in her house, in 1974 Vincent turned to creating a series of small paintings of a section of the sky at different times during the day. By 1990 and 1991, her work became more sculptural. She moved her paintings “off the wall,” out into the exhibition space, and increasingly on alternative supports. This brooch illustrates these different directions in her work.
