Label TextOn Wednesday, September 3, 1883, James Lamb, one of eight members of London's Ariel Touring Club, received this star for performing a club drill at London's Western Fair. The Ariels were the only bicycle club to sign up for the competition. An October 1883 report of the event in the "Canadian Wheelman" noted "the Ariels...showed a great deal of proficiency, which certainly reflects great credit on their Captain, Mr. J. A. Muirhead." The Ariels Touring Club formed in August 1883 when 12 Forest City Bicycle Club members broke from that organization to create a new one with the "special purpose of touring and drill."
