Label Text“The London Regional Children’s Museum Grand Opening” button celebrates that institution’s opening in September 1982. The idea for a children's museum began in 1973 when Londoner Carol Johnston and her family visited the Boston's Children's Museum. Johnston wanted one for London. She and friends began testing ideas and opened an experimental storefront museum at London Towers in 1977. They soon outgrew the space and launched a fundraising campaign to move to newer and bigger quarters. They raised 1.5 million dollars. They were able to buy and renovate the Riverview Public School at 21 Wharncliffe Rd S. They moved at the end of August 1981 and opened the new museum on Wharncliffe in September 1982. The museum will move again in the fall of 2024.
