Label TextThis is a composition doll. Its head is made of a mixture of glue and sawdust and its body is stuffed with straw. It belonged to the donor's aunt who was only 10 years older than her. Composition dolls were made from the 1900s through to the 1950s, at which point they were replaced by plastic dolls. The height of the market for these dolls was between the 1920s through to the 1940s. This doll dates from the earlier time frame because pre-1930s dolls were more likely to have molded hair and painted eyes. This doll's outtit was made many years later.
