Label TextDr. Rod Lim, medical director and section chief for the pediatric emergency department with the London Health Sciences Centre, decided to design and have produced the COVID Warrior socks to boost the morale of his coworkers and to raise money for front line workers. In his own words: “So I don’t love the analogy to war but it really did feel very much like heading to the front lines at the very beginning. And I wanted to acknowledge that in some way of togetherness, that as scary as this was for all of us, that we were in this together and we had each other’s backs, and that we would persevere together and that’s where the idea of the socks was born.” He and his colleague, nurse Amanda Goossens, designed the socks. Lim raised the funds for their production with a Go Fund Me page. He approached London’s Collins Clothier to have the socks made. The company made them and also sold them to anyone who wanted them with proceeds going to Canada Strong. As of now, upwards of 7000 pairs of socks have been sold. When asked how his colleagues received the socks, Lim said: “At that moment, we needed to not feel alone and we needed to feel that somebody had cared. And the story of how the community jumped in to basically to support our department was also touching so I think describe it to you in general, a lot of gratitude.”
