Label TextThis line shaft was used in the machine shop at London Psychiatric Hospital until the 1970's. Most equipment was belt driven until after the Second World War (1939-1945) when the motors were more likely to be built in. Before this a central power source drove a line shaft suspended from the ceiling in the shop and from which a number of pieces of equipment could be run.
