Label TextThis brooch is made from the hair of three-year-old Joseph Thompson (1882-1953). Today, many are put off at the thought of wearing jewellery like this. But people held different opinions in the 19th century. One aficionado maintained hair jewellery was “incomparably superior to metallic jewelry…because of the pleasant effect of wearing the hair of those we love and cherish.”
