Label TextThe drafting tools belonged to Robert D. Schoales, who was London Board of Education architect from 1946 to 1971. Noted Canadian architect, John M. Lyle, who had hired Schoales early in his career, presented this set to his protege as a parting gift. As architect for the London Board of Education, Robert D. Schoales design many of London's mid-century school buildings. A noted regional modernist, he was responsible for the design of Knollwood Park Public School (70 Gammage Street), G. A. Wheable Centre for Adult Education London (70 Jacqueline Street), A. B. Lucas Secondary School (656 Tennent Avenue) and others. In addition to consultation work with educational boards throughout Ontario, Schoales collaborated with the Ministry of the Solicitor General, providing advice in the design and construction of correctional facilities across the province.
