Label TextDonor Debra Majer attended St. Mark Catholic School and was made a safety patroller in grade 6 (1984-85). She became one of 2 Safety Patrol Lieutenants in grade 7 (1985-86) in the school's safety patrol program. Throughout 1985 and 1986, Debra remembers going to a number safety patroller events in the city that brought together students from both the Catholic and Public School systems. She believes those events were sponsored by the CAA and London Police Force. In May 1986, Debra was invited to go to the Safety Patrollers Jamboree in Ottawa, along wiith the other Lieutenant, the Captain and another member of the patroller team from St. Mark. She recalls that there were bus-loads of students/patrollers going from London from both the Catholic and Public schools. She met so many people and felt like she was embarking on a really great experience. Debra recalls that the event made her more aware of how big Canada really was at that point. She met patrollers from BC to Newfoundland. All of a sudden, Canada was so much more than Ontario.
