Label TextLondoner Agnes Balfour Davis (b. 1875) received these medals - (from left to right) British 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal - for her service as one of Canada’s more than 3,000 Nursing Sisters. Davis enlisted in September 1914 and was among the 2,504 who served overseas. She returned to Canada in 1916, suffering from the stress of work. She was lucky. Fifty-three of her nursing sister colleagues died from wounds, disease, or drowning.
