Label TextOn June 6, 2020, 10,000 Londoners converged on Victoria Park to voice their outrage about the May 25, 2020 death of Minnesotan George Floyd at the hands of police. They were responding to the call of five young London women to join them in a peaceful protest against the systemic racism Black people, Indigenous people, and people of colour experience in London and in Canada. Londoners responded even though health and other officials were telling everyone to socially distance to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. To mitigate the risk, many wore face masks. Many chose to decorate their face masks in support of the cause that drew them out. Fanshawe College student, Olivia Musico, was one of the many Londoners who felt compelled to add their voice to the cause. She wore one of the masks and a friend wore the other.
