Label TextThis is Elizabeth McRobert’s coffin plate. A mother of four, the youngest two-years-old, she died of pelvic peritonitis. This infection is a complication of puerperal fever. Contaminated medical equipment or medical staff caused the disease in new mothers. For her part, Elizabeth may have contracted the illness following a miscarriage. She did not leave behind a newborn and her death record does not mention a stillborn baby.
