Label TextMrs. Letitia Morgan (1829-1936) purchased this sewing machine in 1865. It was the first privately owned machine in London. Mrs. Morgan’s mother disagreed with the purchase. She believed her daughter should hire women who needed to work to do the household sewing. By doing it herself, Mrs. Morgan deprived other women of the means of earning their living.
