Label TextMilliner Stuart Kent Harper made this wide-brimmed wool felt hat in the 1940s or 1950s. Born in Malahide Township, Ontario, in 1907, Harper worked in New York before the Second World War (1939-1945). He came to London around 1950, working here until 1970. Harper created many hats from wool felt. Felt is one of the oldest types of textile. It is made from fibres that are matted together rather than woven.
