Label TextLondon’s Dr. John Dearness (1852-1954), a celebrated London educator and amateur mycologist, used the skates. Reminiscing about early 20th century London, another Londoner, Reg Fowler recalled, “[w]hen the dams were up at Saunby’s Mill, below Blackfriars Bridge, that created enough water so you could skate all the way down the river, past the university and up to Adelaide Street.”
