Label TextThe shawl you see here features a deep border in the pattern we know as paisley. Paisley takes its name from the Scottish town of the same name. Weavers there dominated the production of fabric with this pattern for most of the 19th century. The East India Company introduced the original Kashmir shawls to the West in the 17th century. Demand soon exceeded supply. Several European weaving centres began to produce cloth with the distinctive pattern.
