Label TextThis is a Peter Hendershott & Co. candy box. Originally based in St. Catharines, Ontario, Hendershott (1830-1917) moved his paper box making business to London in 1879. By 1881, he employed fifteen people. At first, his employees cut and folded the boxes by hand. He may later have introduced Robert Gair’s machine, invented in 1879, to do the work. In 1894, Hendershott sold his business to George Baly who, in turn, sold it to H. T. Reason in 1898.
