Label TextThe Crystal Palace at London's first fairgrounds opened in 1861. Designed by architect William Robinson, the "palace" was an eight-sided white brick building with a door on each side and a second tier featuring 48 windows. This photograph shows two women sitting in Victoria Park, with the palace in the background. The palace was demolished in 1888 and the fairgrounds were moved to East London, where they stand today.
