Label TextThese circa 1960 Acton brand winter boots feature a braid trim and a fabric elasticized front. That elasticized fabric front was both decorative and practical. It stretched to allow the foot into the boot and then contracted to keep the boot on. Elasticized fabric was woven using strands of yarn interlaced with natural or synthetic rubber. By the 1920s, it had begun to revolutionize footwear and clothing. Buttons and ties on boots and clothing became decorative rather than functional.
