Label TextLondon inaugurated the collection of garbage and ashes from the rear of properties in 1913, and by 1933 this system had been expanded to include all parts of the city. Motorized vehicles were first introduced in the garbage department in 1936. In late March 1937, the last of the garbage department horses were sold at auction and the department became totally mechanized.
