Label TextThis photograph depicts Miss May Child's Victoria Public School Grade 6 class in 1899. Victoria Public School began in a room rented from a brewery on Wharncliffe Road, becoming the first school in South London. Later, a building called the Green School, was erected and it accommodated primary grades. The current Victoria School was dedicated in 1928. Elizabeth Helen "May" Childs (1879-1950) was a longtime teacher in London.
