Label TextThomas George Mitcheltree (1870-1945) was born in Lambton and lived in London with his family from around 1871-1911. He was blind and worked as a musician. Isobel C. Armstrong, musical critic for "The London Advertiser," wrote about him in a 1919 issue of "The Exeter Advocate." She stated “Thomas G. Mitcheltree, Canada’s Blind Pianist, is a musician of exceptional talent. Few artists before the Canadian public so entirely possess the ability to interest and arouse the enthusiasm of an audience...His playing is of many moods, dainty, delicate, of elusive charm again astonishing by its brilliancy or virility. Whatever he plays he makes it pure music. So potent is his gift of imagination that beneath the magic of his touch the piano tells stories, discusses philosophical problems, and conjures up dream pictures".
