Label TextJames Arthur Cairncross and Lindsay Tyler Lawrence opened the Cairncross and Lawrence drug store in 1886. First at 256 Dundas Street in 1886, by 1889 the business had expanded and the owners needed larger premises. They moved to a location on the northwest corner of Dundas and Clarence Streets. After Lawrence’s 1901 death, Cairncross bought his late partner’s shares. After James Cairncross died in 1924, his son, Roy, took over. The Cairncross and Lawrence pharmacy remained in the Cairncross family through four generations. It had expanded to six locations in London by the time G. Tamblyn Limited took control of the business in July 1967.
