Label TextSimilar to mourning veils, widow's bonnets or caps have historically been worn to show respect for the dead, as visual indicators of a person's grief, and a way to express sorrow. The simpler the design, the more recent the loss, however, all widow's bonnets had long ribbons or streamers. Jessie Marie Bucke wore this veil after the death of her husband, Dr. Richard Maurice Bucke.
