Label TextEthelwyn Langford Robertson (1872-1949) made this doily. It is an example of Mountmellick work. Robertson used thread only obtainable in Dublin, Ireland. This is appropriate. Mountmellick work originated in 19th century Ireland in a town of the same name. Educator Johanna Carter is credited with its introduction. She developed and taught the technique to her students to give them a means of making a livelihood. As the 19th century progressed, middle class Victorian women began to do Mountmellick as a hobby.
