Label TextThe donor wore this bridesmaid dress and matching belt to a wedding in 1952. The dress was purchased from "Sophie's Gown Shoppe", owned by Sophie Stronski, a Polish immigrant who came to Canada in 1948. The gowns sold in the store were designed and hand made by Stronski. Before opening her dress shop in downtown London, Stronski did alterations in her home. The business was eventually sold to a new owner, continuing store operations for over 75 years. Business has expanded to locations beyond London, with stores in Windsor, Kitchener, and Mississauga.
