Label TextThis is Don Collier’s (dates unknown) Morris-style chair, a miniature version of his father’s. Morris chairs were the first recliners. Look closely at this one. To adjust the backrest angle, the metal rod supporting it can be placed in one of two sets of grooves on the back of the armrests. English architect Philip Webb (1831-1915) designed the Morris chair. He named it for William Morris (1834-1896), an English poet, painter, and craftsman associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement.
