Label TextThis chair was designed in the Charles Lock Eastlake (1836-1906) style. Eastlake was an English designer and exponent of well-designed furniture. A marked feature of the Eastlake style is the rectangular forms of the structure. The traditions of the medieval joiner were followed which required a framework of verticals and horizontals joined with mortise and tenon, never glue. The style started to gain popularity around the mid-1860s and carried on into the early 20th century in North America.
