Label TextLondoner Bill Downe (dates unknown) purchased this armchair and other furniture from Jack Chambers’ children in the late 1990s. An important London artist, Chambers (1931-1978) produced many works that are now held in Museum London's collection. He was part of the London Regionalism movement that developed in the 1950s-1960s, creating work that centred around London as a city, home, and community. Along with Chambers, other artists who participated in this movement included Greg Curnoe, Tony Urquhart, Murray Favro, and Ron Martin.
