Label TextThis walnut parlour rocking chair with Indian cotton damask upholstery belonged to Anne McCormick Porte (1827-1911). Two-year-old Anne, with her family, arrived in London from Ireland in 1829. They were among the early White settlers in the three-year-old village. It’s unlikely this chair was part of the McCormick’s early furnishings. The community first had to attract furniture makers and retailers. And then families like Anne’s had to become more established to afford to purchase quality pieces like this.
