Label TextJohn Scandrett, a licensed London grocer, sold liquor to his customers by the glass to drink on his premises. He also sold it to them for home consumption. Competitors in the liquor business included J. P. Watt and W. Simpson. By the late 19th century, stiffer regulations and steeper license fees meant grocers found it difficult to continue to sell alcohol.
