The London Rowing and Canoeing Club was founded in 1891 and soon expanded to include the sports of lawn bowling and tennis. It was often referred to as the London Rowing and Bowling Club or simply the London Rowing Club. This club, through the work of the executive and the fees members paid, organized local facilities and grounds for the sports under its purview. Local teams competed against each other and against teams from other cities and municipalities.
