Label TextThis sign was installed on the corner of Richmond and Dundas Streets. London’s Carling Brewing and Malting Company produced ale, as well as porter, lager, and other products. Thomas Carling (1797-1880) established the family brewery in 1843. His sons, William (1821-1879) and John (1828-1911), later built the brewery into a flourishing business. E. P. Taylor purchased the Carling Brewery in 1930 as he created the Brewing Corporation of Canada. After the difficulties of the First World War (1914-1918), Prohibition, and the Great Depression, Carlings closed in London in 1936.
