Label TextThis commemorative vase suggests London’s pride in its waterworks. In 1877, civic leaders established the city’s first waterworks (pictured above) at Coombs Springs. Pumps moved the water to a reservoir on top of what is today Reservoir Hill. Gravity distributed the water throughout the city. As demand grew, the city acquired more land with new springs to try to meet it.
