Maxwell & Sons moved from Paris, Ontario, to this location on James Street South in St. Mary’s in 1888. Once the largest factory in Perth County and employing 100 workers, the company manufactured machinery, farm implements, and household utensils and appliances. The factory closed in 1964 and the building was demolished in 1987. Today the site is an empty lot.
