Label TextIn the 1860s, the Independent Order of Good Templars recognized the need to teach children about the evils of alcohol. It established the Juvenile Templars in 1869. Children pledged to abstain from “intoxicating drink, tobacco, and profanity.” If they never tried alcohol and tobacco, adult temperance advocates believed, children would never become addicted. Jessie and Arthur Robins were both very active members of the Sunbeam Juvenile Temple No. 6, a temperance group for teens, held at First Congregational Church, where the very religious family worshipped.
