Label TextThis postcard depicts the fleet of ocean liners that carried more than 31,000 Canadian troops steaming into Plymouth Harbour in England. This was the largest number of Canadians ever to have left Canada at one time. Fearful of German naval attacks, the convoy had been escorted by British warships, its departure a secret. It crossed the Atlantic in 12 days, having enjoyed an uneventful trip. Donor Arthur Reuben Fradgley (1882-1966) had enlisted in August 1914. Perhaps he had been a part of this convoy. Born in England, by the time of his enlistment, Fradgley and his wife, Annie, were living in London, Ontario.
