Label TextThis postcard records an August 18, 1908 fire at Westman's Hardware Store in the Cronyn Block on the south side of Dundas Street, between Richmond and Talbot. Three men lost their lives in the fire: Fire Chief Lawrence Clark, Fireman Henry M. Wein, and Sgt. John “Jock” Cockburn, drum-major of the 7th Regiment (Fusiliers) and regular of No. 1 Co. RCR. Fire Station No. 6, on the south side of Oxford Street West, west of Wonderland Road, was later named in honour of Chief Clark.⠀
