Label TextNorthern Life was formed in London in 1894 and led for years by T. H. Purdom until his death in 1923. Concerned that it be purchased by Toronto investors and taken out of the city, R. G. Ivey assembled a syndicate that included Ray Lawson and C. R. Somerville who bought control of the company with the backing of the London and Western Trusts. In 1951, R. G. Ivey purchased sole control. At its height in the 1970s, it occupied one of the City Centre towers. It was sold by the family in 1974 and left London in 1985.
