Label TextFour London Street Railway (LSR) cars wait outside the Main Building at the Western Fair Grounds in 1895 in this image. The LSR began operation with one line in 1875. Its launch began to change the way in which Londoners lived in the city. With public transit, more Londoners could live beyond walking distance from their places of work as well as from services and amenities. In 1895, the company adopted electricity. Today, the London Transit Commission is transitioning to electricity once more, after decades of using diesel-powered buses. The first zero-emission electric buses will join the fleet in 2024.
