Label TextLondoners began to feel the effects of the Great Depression. People like W. P. Tanner registered with the Employment Service of Canada. Created after the First World War, this organization helped pair unemployed workers with jobs. During the Great Depression, it also controlled access to assistance. In 1930, 1,620 Londoners received assistance. By 1932, that number had grown to 11,455.
