Label TextHats were a popular accessory during this time period, symbolizing wealth and status. Outfits worn in public were not complete without a hat. This top hat was made by Edmund Beltz, London's most well-known19th-century hat maker. Beltz's store was located at 144 Dundas Street, opening in the early 1850s. Beltz's hats were also sold at other stores, including W. Green's Dry Goods and Millinery Warehouse, where this hatbox came from.
