Label TextThis is an Edmond Beltz top hat. Beltz was London's best-known nineteenth century hat maker. At that time, hats were, for both women and men, an important part of their attire. They often marked a person's wealth and status. This particular hat ended up in the costume department of the London Little Theatre (1934-1971). Made up of the London Drama League, the Half-Way House Theatre, the Meredith Players, and later, the Community Drama League, this amateur theatre group received critical acclaim for its productions.
