Label TextThese date stones came from the Darch Building that stood on Talbot Street. Jane Kay Darch (1834-1903), who was the head of a successful harness and saddlery business, J. Darch & Sons, had relocated the family firm across from Covent Garden Market by the mid-1850s. She recognized the business had to be where the customers were. After her husband’s 1867 death, Darch continued to grow the business, commissioning London's first "skyscraper" by raising their building to reach six stories in 1877.
