Label TextThese date stones came from 377-379 Talbot street, part of which was occupied by Darch & Sons. London architect William Robinson designed the building. They keystones had been located in the arches of the four third-floor windows. The second storey featured bays and paired round-headed windows. Two gable dormers featured round-headed windows with pilasters and keystones in wood. Jane Kay Darch (1834-1903), who was the head of a successful harness and saddlery business, J. Darch & Sons, had relocated the family firm across from Covent Garden Market by the mid-1850s. She recognized the business had to be where the customers were. After her husband’s 1867 death, Darch continued to grow the business. She later commissioned London's first "skyscraper," a six storey structure completed in 1903, that was just north of 377-379 Talbot.
