Label TextAccording to the donor, Claire Anderson, these pins were given to school children following Queen Victoria’s death. Anderson shared the following: "The 'Canada Mourns' pin was given to me by my grandmother (d. 1964). In 1901 her family was farming near Kincardine where she was attending high school. She rode her bicycle in the summer and in winter stayed in a rooming house, taking a supply of food from home with her each week. I thought she told me that every school child in Ontario was given a pin, but she might have meant every student in high school, which would have cut the numbers a bit."
