Label TextA tonsillotome is a tool that is used in the surgical removal of the tonsils, a tonsillectomy. Tonsils are lumps of tissue that are on both sides of the back of the throat. They help the immune system protect the body from infections by stopping bacteria travelling further down the throat. The removal procedure is not as common today but is done when recurrent infections occur.
