Label TextThe London Soap Company opened about 1875 on the southwest corner of South and Clarence streets. It responded to growing consumer demand for higher quality soaps than could be produced at home. The Phillips family took over the business in 1911 and operated it at the south London site until 1978. At that point, they sold the building to the Upper Thame River Conservation Authority. The building burned down in 1985. After 1978, the London Soap Company operated out of a plant on Osler Drive. It became part of Hunter Packaging Limited in 1998 and operations moved to Elora, Ontario.
