Label TextOn September 10th 1941 ten girls: Peggy Hennigar, Lyla Dennis, Marion Luney, Dorothy Luney, Ellen Harding, Jean Platt, Betty Ramsey, Audrey Norman, and Ruth Keene decided to form the "Gung-Ho" Club. They named it after a Chinese motto, meaning to "Work Together." Their goal was to help contribute to the war effort.
The club met bi-weekly at a different members house. At each meeting, members contributed ten cents and the funds were used to send care packages to boys they knew from school (London South Collegiate Institute) who were overseas. Other duties of the club included, knitting and sewing items for solders, their families, and people affected by the war. They also volunteered their time at London's Active Service Club.
