Label TextThis sign advertised the sale of fruits and vegetables that London Asylum patients grew as part of moral therapy treatment. This treatment also included entertainment, rest, and proper diet. The institution’s first two directors, Drs. Henry Landor (1815-1877) and Richard M. Bucke (1837-1902) believed regulating behaviour helped cure patients. Both also used alcohol and narcotics. Before the mid-20th century, doctors had few other treatment options.
